Pokemon Gone

Pokemon

A huge phenomenon hit the country, and the world, in July; Pokemon Go. It is a location based reality game using GPS locations to place virtual characters before us whose capturing is the role of the game. In one month it captured 100 million downloads as people all over the world began searching for Pokemon characters. They walked into streets, stumbled into buildings and fell off sidewalks and piers in their searches.

Trade journals today are forecasting as quick a demise for the game as it had in its rise to the top. Sales and revenue are dropping off and new users are no longer coming on board. The search is ending, or so it seems.

Why and how did this craze begin in the first place, and why is it disappearing as quickly?

People in today’s world are trend followers. Value, purpose, and meaning have no place in the day to day world of trends. We do what the others are doing so as to be popular. In effect, we are searching for acceptance: love.

And just as quickly as it is discovered that love does not live there, the game changes. Another trend will take its place and off we go on another search. Remember the hula-hoop? Lava lamps? Rubix cubes and fannie packs? All gone, deserted in the search for the latest thing.

There is only one search in life that will fulfill the needs of the searcher. One quest that will not fade with the morning dew. His name is Jesus. Jesus will never change nor will he fail to please. At the base of every search is the   need for love, and Jesus is love.

Put away the foolishness of today that will only leave you looking for more. Children play children’s games in a world that isn’t real, but the true searcher looks beyond today and the things of the moment. Come see the one who will always be found.

John 4:29   “ Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?”.
