Am I getting more cynical with old age or what? Or are we, as a human race, just losing it? Is there no sanity, no reason, nothing sacred left? Help me with this one Lord.
Oct 11th went by mostly un-noticed to most of the world. The ones with sanity left. But not to me. For Oct 11th, 2016, was proclaimed to honor two occasions at the same time. Yom Kippur and National Coming Out Day.
National Coming Out Day honors those who are confused about their sexuality and need a special day to celebrate their sins. The “Human Rights Campaign” has published a “resource guide to coming out” as well as ways straight people can “demonstrate your support for LGBTQ people and equality worldwide.”… Wow.
Only 52 percent of self-identified evangelicals agree strongly with the statement, “Sex outside of traditional marriage is a sin.” As our culture has decided that truth is personal and subjective, many have been persuaded that they can do with their bodies whatever they wish. This ethic affects abortion, sexual activity and identity, euthanasia, and a host of other issues.
On the Flip side, Oct 11 begins Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement. It is a most solemn and Holy day to our Jewish friends, second only to the Sabbath as the holiest day of the year. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Atonement basically means forgiveness for their sins. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services, asking God to forgive them of their sins..
So here we have it; a day of parading our sins, and a day of asking forgiveness for them. A day of holiness, and a day of humanness.
Maybe you do not see abnormal sexuality as a sin. God does.
Maybe you don’t see a need for your sins to be forgiven.
God does.
Maybe you don’t see a need for holiness. God does.
Maybe you think that what is done with the body is of no matter. God does not agree with that. He gave His Son to die for our sins and make us Holy. His body was beaten, scourged, stabbed, and left to die on a rugged old cross, His body was beaten until it was unrecognizable.
Bodies are very important to Him,. I wonder which holiday best celebrates that idea?
Isaiah 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
