All Gone

I was just thinking about some of the musical talent we have lost this year. Surely, it is, as the Psalmist said,.. “what man can live and not see death?”  ps 89:48

Here is a partial list of just some of the musically dear departed..   Lemmie Kilmister (Motorhead), Natalie Cole, David Bowie, Leon Russell (Beach Boys – one of my favorites) Nick Menza, Prince, Merle Haggard – a moment of silence, please, Maurice White (Earth, Wind and Fire founder), Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane), Glenn Frey (Eagles), Keith Emerson (Emerson, Lake and Palmer). Wow, rock and roll has taken a big hit this year! PTL, Blue Grass lives on, even without Bill Monroe.

The major question is, where are they now? In Dec 2015, one month before his, David Bowie made his last public appearance before the opening of his musical, ‘Lazarus’. “Blackstar”, his final album, was released on Jan 8, 2016, two days before his death from liver cancer. In the end he wrestled with who he was, and died   unsure. Bowie re-invented himself many times in the span of his 50 year career, but unless he was re-invented by the Lord of Lords, his worst fears in life were fulfilled in death.

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Won’t be long before you and I will make that final appearance as well, ending up on somebody’s ‘Dear departed’ list. But I really don’t care whose list I end up on. All that matters is whose hand welcomes me home. I pray as this year comes to an end, my friend, that you are settled and safe in the knowledge of Gods forgiving grace, and that your last days will be not be a question about death, but a song about life. Life eternal.
