The Billy Goat Curse...
Whether or not you are a baseball fan, the story of the “Curse of the Goat” is a fascinating idea as it plays itself out on national TV this week.
The curse was placed upon the Chicago Cubs by bar owner Wm Sianis in 1945. The irate fan , who owned the Billy Goat tavern, was asked to leave Wriggly field in 1945 during the World Series play with the Detroit Tigers, because of the offensive odor of his pet goat Murphy. He was so outraged that he placed a curse on the team stating that” “Them Cubs, they ain’t gonna win no more,”.
Exorcisms were held, goat heads hung above door ways, and many other gruesome acts carried out in order to break the curse. All to no avail. Finally, on the 46th anniversary of Billy Sianis death, the Cubs beat the Dodgers to win the 2016 National League Pennant. Is the curse broken, or will they still loose the final game and return to Wriggly to hear the eerie laughter of Billy Sianis and his goat?
Is it possible that Billy was also so upset he put a curse on America? Our fortunes as a country have sort of dovetailed with those of the Cubbies the last 50 years. Do we have a curse upon us, do you suppose?
Reading Gen 12:3 it is reasonable to think that once we began to turn our backs on God, and His children in Israel, that we may have fallen under some sort of bad omen.
Since I am from Cleveland, I really am not at all concerned about the hapless Cubs. But I do care about America, and the future home of my children. The Billy goat curse seems to be unbreakable, but God has said repeatedly that if we would turn back to Him, He would heal our land and return us to His favor. (2Chron 7:14, others). Maybe if each and every American fell to their knees at midnight on the 8th of November and asked for a Godly king, God would hear us and something unbelievable might happen! I will if you will! See you on the floor.
