Drought

Last year Texas had a Texas sized drought. Things faded, dried up, shriveled, and died. A lot. drought

That which survived did so because it was able to send its roots far enough down to find moisture. And its roots became stronger in the search for life.

Who would have thought it could end so fast? The rains came; suddenly and steadily. Who would believe that so much rain could fall for so long? So much rain fell that there was no longer any place to put it. The drought is gone. Over. Behind us.

What a blessing to see green again instead of brown. Growth instead of death. Life.

So much water fell that the roots that once ran deep soon came near the surface, and as the heat built up again under the Texas sun, the shallow roots were unable to survive. Grass that was cut too short soon died. Golf course greens turned brown. Gardens  suffered. The abundance soon brought problems of its own.

Gods children are much the same. When we are tested and our roots go deep in search of Him, we grow stronger. When abundance and good times come, we rely on the blessings; not the One who sent them. And again we suffer.

There is only one place where refreshment lives forever. And it is deep. And must be searched out. But life lives there. The water of life.. … The Word.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever. Drink deep.   Isaiah 40:8
