Someday I am going to write a book about God and Dogs, and the things I have learned from both. It will be a devotional of some sort with a mixture of the two of mans best friends all together in one place. I think it wail start like this… page 1
Gal 5:16
So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want.
Lady, our Golden Retriever, is not always real lady like. She does not hold true to her name all the time. Today was a good example.
During the night she had been into the neighbors shed and found the bed their cat sleeps on. For whatever reason, she drug it out in the yard and chewed it up. Then, with a few hours of darkness left she found a cow pasture with fresh deposits and spent awhile just rolling till she was covered from end to end in, well you know what. Even the flies deserted her.
Tired from her nights activities, she brought the cushion and a sizeable amount of pasture home and laid down on the door mat to finish out the night. We never know in the morning what surprise she will bring home, but her wanderings in the dark do not usually fit the image of a Lady.
Often I find that I do not fit the image of my name, Christian. My mind wanders in the dark like a dog with no direction.
Do you ever find yourself catching your mind as it strays into pastures of the flesh where it need not be? Don’t feel bad, Paul did, all of us do. Paul would have understood Lady. He realized the flesh and the spirit are contrary to each other, and a constant struggle to do right is always being waged. But he found that if we try our best to keep our minds on things of the spirit, they will soon take less trips into the fleshly areas. Fill your mind with spirit filled books, movies, music and friends and it will be much easier to do. After all, that is where it really was designed to be in the first place.
