The King Has Left the Building

King Elvis

“Elvis has left the building” is a phrase that began in the glory days of the King of Rock n Roll in order to inform his fans that there was no need to hang around for autographs or photos; The King had gone.

As I look around the world today; at the sterile institutions we call churches, at the immorality and permissiveness around us, and at the lack of leadership   present in our leaders, I am tempted to say “The King has left the building”.

Christian leaders are turning to non-believing politicians for leadership, the Pope is handing down political opinions instead of Holy Writ, and Gods people, when interviewed on the street, think the Easter bunny was a character in the Old Testament. Maybe the King has left the building.

Where is the King? Has HE really left and stranded us on this God forsaken planet? Are we alone without hope or promise?

“No!”, “No’”, “a thousand times NO”. We are here to fight the darkness, not hide from it, and the King of Kings has sent his Spirit to walk hand in hand with us in every daily struggle. His body may have left the building, but His Spirit reigns on forever!

The men of Galilee were defeated men, gazing upward wondering as we often do, “Has the King left the House?”

They had Calvary behind them, and questions before them. We have Pentecost behind us, and hope before us. Hope and the assurance that the King has NOT left the building.

Acts 1:11   NIV “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
