
The story of Jacob, Esau and the porridge (Gen 25:29-34), seems, to most folks, just a tale of beans and boys. But there is more there: much more.
Re-read it and see a nation and a people who will settle for the pleasures of the moment to satisfy a human hunger. For Esau, to be in the lineage of Christ did not measure up to satisfying the human needs. The red head lost more than he ever knew.
But Jacob was no less guilty, for he could not wait for that which was already promised him, and took it upon himself to help the Lord out. It would one day cost him dearly at the hands of Laban.
Is there a lesson there for us? There is for me. Sometimes Superbowl shows supercede Sunday services and we are entertained at the expense of our starving souls. The body is fed but we are left empty.
Many church goers, this preacher in particular, learned a lesson in life in the middle of a game last Sunday evening. This morning I was led to the tent of the twins and given a High Definition view of what is really important.
