Powerball

Powerball

Is it possible that God does not want you to win the Powerball? Can you imagine that He would rather you put your time and money in Him, rather than the schemes of man? Are you able to accept that God has already given you all that you need for the here and now?

The horror stories of those who have won the lottery and died miserably are legion. Untold, I am sure, are the millions who have turned to the world for their substance when God has freely covered the earth with His blessings. Free and frequent are the blessings of the Lord for those who will wait upon him.

Prv 11:28 says “ Whoever trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.”     C.S. Lewis notes in The Problem of Pain: “The settled happiness and security which we all desire, God withholds from us by the very nature of the world: but joy, pleasure, and merriment he has scattered broadcast”.

A man interviewed on the news last night said, “I didn’t win last time, so I just figured I’d give it another chance this week..’ And my response to the flat screen was “Why not give God a chance!?”

If I sound old school and out of touch, forgive me, for I am just a poor old retiree scraping along and trusting the Lord for tomorrow. I fear if I were to win the lottery I would be so distracted, even if I used it all to help the poor, that I would soon lose the faith   I have received by trusting in Him. And that very faith is worth far more than a mere 1.3 billion dollars.
