Do you suppose, as has been suggested, that the air within the Garden was hushed and stilled that morning? Do you think that all the newly named creatures stopped in their tracks and turned their heads towards the scene unfolding there in the dawn of time?
Did the giraffe slowly stop chewing on the upper branches of the tree and turn his head as the serpent slid towards the ground?
And the birds who sang praises all day; did they cease their song and gaze downward in stunned silence with a feeling of anticipation. Something was about to change.
Is it possible that the monkey in the nearby bush slid closer to the woman and looked up into her eyes as she framed an answer for the creature of deceit.
The serpent had questioned Eve, and she had no answer. She, herself, had not spoken directly with God All she had is what her man had told her. And thus the answer was weak, and the consequences enormous.
A thousand sermons can draw the picture of the ones who were sent eastward from Eden; a million stories and teachings can easily be drawn. But there is a truth for us in it, a lesson for today. And it goes like this.
Do not listen to your man, or to your preacher, or the Pope or a song or a story. Listen to the Lord. Himself. Get it first hand. Upfront. One on one. The truth is elusive and the serpent still hangs around.
And where do you hear the truth? The inerrant Word? Where is the only source of life giving water? In His voice. In his Word. In the War Room.
The only position that affords perfect hearing is that of kneeling.
Bow down, Warrior. The enemy stalks, but the War Room has never been breached. Pray hard, there are many others outside listening, waiting there in the silence.
Mark 13:33 Be on guard! Be alert ! You do not know when that time will come.
