Frito-Lay, a Dallas based manufacturer of a variety of potato chips, announced today they would color some chips in order to support what they deemed a worthy cause.
At first I had hoped they would color them brown, to celebrate the ever growing Hispanic community around us. Wrong
Certainly then, they must be doing black, in preparation for Black History Month and to support the Negro College Fund. Not so.
Blue was my next choice, for certainly a company as in the center of American life as they are would offer blue chips to support the first responders of this country, and to celebrate the lives they have sacrificed for us all. Missed that too.
My final guess was that they went all out and made red, white, and blue chips to bring a much needed patriotic theme back to the table. You guessed it. But close .
Doritos will now be available, though only on a special website, for $10 a bag in multi-colored chips to celebrate the LGBT community, and to support ‘It Only Gets Better,’ a group that helps straight teens adopt to the gay life style. That’s where their commitment went.
May I tell you that there are a lot of companies out there that sell chips as good as, and often better than, Lays, and they cost a lot less too. May I also tell you that most of them just make chips, not statements?
Sitting down to a meal is not a political statement to me. It’s called eating.
If I were to need more politics than the TV already provides, I will go to the Fritos aisle. Tell then, it’s “Pass the ‘Julios’.” Just sayin…
